Barbour classic styling and iconic waxed cotton fabrics seem a match made in heaven for the militaria and heritage workwear-leaning Japanese brand Engineered Garments - the type of peanut butter and jelly combination that makes one wonder "why didn't anyone think of this sooner?" And so the initial excitement was almost palpable following the announcement of a
collaboration between the two brands for FW2018 earlier this year. That buzz was significantly dampened for many, however, with the cost of entry. We're talking in the neighborhood of ~$500-1000 USD, more than double of most MSRPs for classic Barbour jackets, and a price that would make many guys ask "why not just buy three Bedales...and a hoagie?"

Fortunately for those with bigger eyes than pockets,
British retailer END stands a beacon of hope. END has long been considered the best online retailer to purchase Barbour, with a selection that's relatively unrivaled and price points historically a good step lower than others around the net. Their seasonal sales typically mark the gold standard at which you can buy Barbour products. The same is true for the Barbour x Engineered Garments collaboration, which you can now get on sale without having to sell a kidney.

Wax cape |
The collection consists of five pieces - the
Cowan,
Zip parka,
Dumbo,
Graham jacket, and a motherf*cking
Wax Cape - all oozing with both Barbour and EG character (think as many pockets as you could imagine, and then add three). The Cowan, for example, takes rough inspiration from the
Cowen Commander jacket, made in pullover style and different silhouette. If you missed the Wallace and Barnes
Canoeist Smock this season, the Cowan is an excellent alternative. Moving on, the Dumbo jacket riffs on "MA-1, tanker, A-2, military bomber styles and Eddie Bauer all-purpose jackets." In the short Graham jacket, you'll find notes of the classic
Beaufort and
Bedale, and the Zip parka channels the
Durham jacket mixed with more pockets and military detailing. It's hard to imagine I'd ever say this, but I don't even mind the wax cape, which gives off less screaming #menswear vibes than practical rainwear.
The whole line is on sale at END with a much more palatable price tag and available in a slew of sizes and neutral waxed cotton fabrics. You can find them all at the link below, or, if you're not quite sold on this Man-in-the-High-Castle Japanese alternate universe of Barbour, the entire Barbour collection over at END. I previously bought my dog a Barbour waxed jacket, which I loved until my in-laws through it in the wash and dryer #neverforget
