Kapital Archive at Grailed - The Koolest Kapital Kollection This Side of the Kountry
Behold the alliteration, and tremble at the sight of the most extensive Kapital capsule collection that's possibly ever existed in this hemisphere. Brought to us by Middleman via Grailed, the sale dropped today, consisting of everything from pants to pajamas and parkas. But despite everything being for sale, this exhibit is much more than just a chance to spend an inordinate amount of money on Kapital products. I don't plan on buying anything myself, and prices are generally Western prices (aka more expensive) versus what you can get proxied from Japan if you're particularly motivated and patient, but the gallery is worth the price of admission of a few minutes just to click through for the breadth and selection of what they have on offer.
In the introduction to the collection, Middleman expressed a desire to showcase some of the deeper cuts in Kapital's line up. In particular, the Kountry sub-line is on full display, and features pieces you would be hard pressed to find in the states (and some in Japan) due to much of it being fairly niche - even among Kapital consumers. And, as Middleman also explains, this sort of fanciful creativity really lies at the core of what makes Kapital Kapital. Smiley faces, rainbow parkas, military kimonos abound. It's the sort of stuff you are used to seeing in Kapital lookbooks before you go purchase something as boring and staid as a plain ring coat.
It's not an unreasonable question to ask "who can wear some of this stuff?" (John Mayer is fairly OG in this regard), but perhaps we are starting to talk about more soul and art than shirts at this point. At the very least, the collection displays how much of Kapital's vision is entirely unique in the world - just like any other great design house in history.
It might also not be an unreasonable question to ask "how rich do I have to be to be able to afford to dress like a Bohemian hobo's fever dream?" That one I do not have an answer for, but generally the type of rich where you say things like "We're comfortable."
